Luva Arm Pad - Forearm Rest for Guitarists

New Luva Arm Pad!

We are pleased to inform that in November 2024
we launched a new type of the Luva Arm Pad.
The new arm pad – tested and approved as a product improvement –
has a semi-rigid rubber insert, which combines the main advantages
of the previous modalities (“Luva hard” and “Luva soft”), both now discontinued.

The Luva Arm Pad is offered in two models:

Short-sleeved Arm Pad and Long-sleeved Arm Pad

The short-sleeved arm pad is attached only to the forearm,
while the long-sleeved arm pad is additionally attached to the elbow and upper arm

Both models are available in seven different sizes:

XS, S, SM, M, ML, L and XL

(see below for the size table and how to measure forearm circunference)

What are the advantages of using it?

The Luva Arm Pad significantly enhances right-hand performance by reducing localized pressure on the finger flexor muscles, when the forearm rests on the guitar’s edge.

The use of the Luva Arm Pad therefore favors the entire motor apparatus, causing less muscle tension and fatigue, improving blood circulation and even helping prevent possible nerve compression.

It should also be emphasized that the Luva Arm Pad is a unique resource for improving the sound of the guitar because, unlike an unprotected forearm, it produces an optimized acoustic response by significantly reducing the relative damping of the soundboard vibration by the soft tissue of the muscles when pressed against the wood.

In other words, using the Luva will produce a much more vibrant, more open and less muffled sound

In addition, the Luva Arm Pad facilitates smoother movement of the arm along the top edge of the instrument, while maintaining a certain grip in contact with the wood, so that the forearm doesn't inadvertently move out of its resting position.

How does it work?

The Luva Arm Pad contains a semi-rigid rubber insert which acts as a pressure distributor, so that the pressure is evenly distributed on the inside of the forearm, allowing free action of the flexor muscles and their associated nerves.

Difference between the models

The short-sleeved arm pad, when adjusted to the correct size, remains comfortably fixed in the desired position. However, due to the movement of the arm, it can slip a little slightly from its starting point and may need to be readjusted from time to time.

The long-sleeved model, however, provides greater stability by securing the pad at both the elbow and upper arm. Both models have their own benefits, and the choice ultimately depends on personal preference.

Adaptation phase in using the Luva Arm Pad

The insertion of the protective rubber layer allows the guitarist to adapt very well, as it preserves the natural sensation of forearm contact with the instrument.

Medical Use of the Luva Arm Pad

From a medical point of view, the use of the Luva Arm Pad is highly recommended as it

  • avoids compression of muscles and finger nerves
  • enhances blood supply, providing energy for muscle contraction
  • prevents the formation of hardened tissue (muscle fibrosis) due to localized pressure
  • helps in the prevention and recovery of injuries such as tendonitis and focal dystonia

The following photos show the arm with and without the protection of the Luva Arm Pad:

Without the Luva Arm Pad:

the localized pressure restricts free muscular action, provoking tension

With the Luva Arm Pad:

the pressure is distributed, allowing normal functioning of the muscles

Table of Sizes

Size
Forearm circumference
Arm Pad length along the forearm
XS (PP) – extra small
7–7,9 in (18–20 cm)
5,7 in (14,5 cm)
S (P) – small
7,9–8,7 in (20–22 cm)
5,7 in (14,5 cm)
S/M (P/M) – small/medium
8,7–9,4 in (22–24 cm)
7,1 in (18 cm)
M – medium
9,4–10,2 in (24–26 cm)
7,1 in (18 cm)
M/L (M/G) – medium/large
10,2–11,0 in (26–28 cm)
7,1 in (18 cm)
L (G) – large
11–12 in (28–31 cm)
7,1 in (18 cm)
XL (GG) – extra large
12–14 in (31–35 cm)
7,1 in (18 cm)

To get your ideal size, measure the circumference of your forearm
and compare it with the table above.

Note that the length of the arm pad along the forearm,
i.e. the part with protection, is the same for short- and long-sleeved models.

In general, an arm pad length of 18 cm is best suited to an adult's arm,
while 14.5 cm is better matched to a child's arm length.

Measuring forearm circumference:

In order to measure the circumference of the forearm, you can use
a measuring tape or a paper strip (and then measure it with a ruler),
measuring the forearm at its widest, near the elbow.
